CPE views public education as a broad-based vehicle for democratic engagement and positive social change.
We vigourously advocate that the necessary resources be allocated from our public taxes in order to meet the needs of all Toronto students and adult learners and particularly those of marginalized and racialized communities. CPE recognizes that these communities face systemic barries to participation in our city and are unacceptably under represented when decisions about education are made.
CPE is comprised of Toronto organizations representing parents, ethno-racial communities, students, education workers, school trustees, city councillors and other public education advocates currently campaigning to rebuild our publicly-funded education system. Please check out our website calendar and send a representative from your group, agency or organization to our monthly meeting held the 4th Monday each month (except December & July). Members of the Campaign for Public Education will be continuing to work together to rebuild our communities by campaigning aggressively to renew and refund public education in Toronto. Coalition members came to recognize some year's back the critical need for community-based schools and safe, healthy kids, adult learners and neighbourhoods. After that horrific decade of de-funding and the more recent severe neglect, we redouble our resolve to vigourously press for a complete overhaul the Harris/Eves funding formula. More than ever, following the October 2007 provincial election, public education awaits our joint and active attention. Now is the time to be clear and stand firm. Together we form the critical mass necessary to rethink and rebuild our society with our public education system at the centre. Please join us.
