*Whereas, the City of Toronto may, by bylaw, prohibit a corporation that carries on business in
Ontario or a trade union that holds bargaining rights for employers in Ontario from making a contribution to or for any candidate for an office on City Council; and
Whereas, the City of Toronto’s elections website lists individuals and organizations that may not
contribute to a municipal campaign; and
Whereas, the City of Toronto Bylaw 1177-2009 bans corporate and trade union donations;
Therefore, be it resolved that the Director look into the interpretation with the City of Toronto
Election Services and present a report as whether the Board can request a ban on trade union donations under the City of Toronto Act.
