Our mission: Working together to support and inform parents and guardians in our school
communities. This event is a collaboration between the TDSB Trustees in Wards 18, 19, 20,
21, 22 and the TCDSB Trustees in Wards 7 & 12, and parent volunteers representative of
both Boards. The TDSB and TCDSB are publicly funded School Boards in the GTA.

9:30 – 10:15 Key Note Speaker – Michael Furdyk.
Michael uses his own powerful story to provide an in-depth look at the “Net Generation” and how their use of technology is influencing
many aspects of society. This former TDSB student is passionate about motivating the next generation. His media appearances

WORKSHOP TOPICS
You may select two workshops, one in the
morning and one in the afternoon. Some workshops
are offered during one time only. The workshops’
presenters are either community resource
professionals, or those from our own TDSB and
TCDSB. We also have SEPT workers available
to help with questions from newcomer parents.
1. Building Developmental Assets in School
Communities: A positive approach fostering
the emotional, social and educational
well-being of students.
2. How to better understand your teenagers
and the fact that they still love you even
when they call you those nasty names.
A presentation and panel discussion lead
by teen expert Dr. Rahul Saxena.
3. Are teachers reaching students who are
most at-risk? Are educators improving the
success of average and struggling
students? Panel presentation and discussion.
4. Parent Partnerships: Engaging the Principal
(a.m. & p.m.). Conflict Resolution and the
Parent Concern Protocol (p.m. only).
5. Lockdown and Hold & Secure Procedures.
6. Is your child the bully? The consequences
of this negative behaviour and the solutions
to stopping it.
7. How to cope in a new country and deal with
issues that affect your child’s education.
8. Getting it right in the early years:
Keys to raising emotionally healthy children.
9. School Councils: Their supportive role in
your child’s school.
