Beef Up Police Presence In Toronto Schools: Report

Nearly a year after 15-year-old Jordan Manners was shot to death at his North York high school a new report will be released Tuesday calling for new measures to ensure similar tragedies are prevented.

According to a published report, the Toronto District School Board plans to release recommendations Tuesday to improve safety in classrooms across the city, including beefing up the police presence in and around schools and increasing the number of frontline staff to work with troubled kids.

These recommendations are based on the Falconer Report released in January, which found that several Toronto schools needed to implement serious changes to improve safety in the wake of Manners' death.

The 15-year-old boy was killed inside C.W. Jeffreys on Sentinel Road last May.

Aside from the increased police presence in schools, the TDSB report also suggests overhauling the way schools deal with sexual assaults and finding ways to foster more positive relationships between police officers and students.

The recommendations must be approved by the school board in a vote.  Read the report & recommendations:
